Live, don't worry, everything will be alright!

So What is a holiday park steeped in warm family history and love for Texel. In a unique location, on the edge of the forest and within walking distance of the beach, guests have been warmly welcomed for over 70 years.

It started in a barn

The holiday park not only offers a beautiful location, but also a rich family history that we'd love to tell you more about. Shall we take a trip back in time? We'll take you back to the 1950s when Grandpa Veenstra started his first retreat from a barn on this very spot. The barn was converted into a house and used as a guesthouse, with great success... The first bungalows followed and thus a real holiday park was born.

The park owes its name 'So What' to the Canadians who came to liberate Texel at the time. They often used the expression 'Live, don't worry, everything will be fine', which intrigued grandpa. 'What does it matter' or 'So What' in English still fits well with our Texel attitude.

Grandpa and grandma Veenstra had 3 children: Edu, Guus & Linda, who were all born at the park. With their roots here, it could hardly be otherwise than that the children Edu and Guus, together with their partners Marjon and Bartina, followed in the footsteps of their (in-law) parents. History has repeated itself once again. Now grandson Pascal and his wife Claudia are at the helm on his native soil.

A true family business

That it's a true family business is still clearly evident. Pascal often hears from guests (some have been coming for 40 years) that they remember seeing him as a little 4-year-old boy running around the grounds, or that the grandparents of new guests already came to So What to celebrate their holidays. From the moment Pascal could walk, he helped out and that continued. So it was no surprise that So What came into Pascal's hands in 2019. For him, it had always been a dream!

Claudia finds it incredibly special to be able to continue the family business with her husband and gave up her passion in healthcare for it. Before joining the business, she worked in the cardiac emergency unit at St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein. With their two daughters Sophie and Beau, they now live (and work) on the park with great pleasure!

Since the takeover, they've been working hard and investing heavily to bring the park completely up-to-date. From new interiors in the bungalows to building a total of 14 luxury villas! That's no small feat. Pascal took charge of the construction while Claudia handled all the details and interior design. Additionally, the restaurant has been renovated with a beautiful conservatory and large terrace.

Future Plans

There are still new ideas, but after 6 years of renovating and refurbishing, we're putting our plans on hold for now. We hope that our guests, just like us, will absolutely love this beautiful, peaceful location and keep coming back generation after generation.
